twilight sky you can always catch the excited chatter of the annual attendees looking forward to the
preliminary performances of the airplanes that open start the event. Classic WWII fighter planes
painted with racing stripes and checkers roar overhead performing banks and rolls to the delight of
the spectators. When they're not called out on a mission, we get to see the Oklahoma National
Guard F-16 jet fighters soar in iron-clad formation at altitudes which you might think would scorch the
tree tops. A wave of cheers and applause echoes for miles amid a multitude of enthusiastic boat
horns; all saluting, in their own way, our flying heroes.
Just before the light of day disappears the concussion of cannon
fire counts down to the main event. Joe Harwood, owner of
Arrowhead Yacht Club begins early each year raising private and
business donations to set new records for the size of the show.
The 2005 show saw $75,000 worth of rockets launched for a
display that seemed to go on and on.
